Businessmen should be given representation in government decision-making bodies-Zafar Bakhtawari February 13, 2013
Meeting at ICCI
 
Mr.Iftikhar Ali Malik, Vice President of SAARC Chamber of Commerce, former President FPCCI and Co-Chairman of Business Panel Forum visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) for having a meeting with Mr.Zafar Bakhtawari, President ICCI.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Iftikhar Ali Malik discussed the matters of mutual interest with ICCI President and stressed on developing strong networking among the Chambers and business associations of the country for effective advocacy on common issues. He said that Chambers and associations must play their vital for resolving businessmen problems.
 
Mr.Malik also highlighted the role of SAARC Chamber of Commerce which is working efficiently to explore potential of tradable goods and identify joint ventures in the SAARC region. He said that countries around the world are promoting regional trade to strengthen each other economy and to improve the living standard of the people, therefore, our government should further build economic relations with its neighbouring countries to help accelerate businesses in these countries.
 
Mr.Zafar Bakhtawari, President ICCI lauded the role of Mr.Iftikhar Ali Malik for resolving the problems of business community at all relevant forums. He also appreciated Mr.Malik as he represented Pakistani business community at D8, ECO, EU, United States, Islamic Chamber of Commerce and many other forums.
 
He said businessmen play an important role in the development of national economy by promoting business, creating jobs and paying taxes. Therefore, they should be given due representation in government decision-making bodies for formulating business friendly economic policies and to recognize their role. 
 
Mr.Bakhtawari said that ICCI also urged the Government to give representation to the businessmen in the boards of directors of CDA and other government institutions which would ultimately create an environment of trust between the business community and Government.
ICCI President said that the economy of Pakistan was facing multiple challenges including energy crisis, decline in investment and law & order problems. He stressed that government should address these problems on priority for creating better business environment in the country.
 
He said that facilitating the growth of private enterprises would create multiple benefits for the economy as it will improve productivity, trade, exports, employment and revenue generation for the country.
