Meeting outside ICCI

A delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry led by its President Zafar Bakhtawari called on Mr. Sikandar Hayat, newly appointed Inspector General of Islamabad Police in his office and apprised him of the problems being faced by the business community.

Mr. Sikandar Hayat said that he is fully cognizant of issues and working on a comprehensive strategy encompassing all aspects to improve the performance of Islamabad Police. Implementation of strategy will address all issues of common man including business community.

He said our objective is to make Islamabad a crime free city so that people could live a peaceful life. Building trust deficit of people in police is the top most item on my agenda and special focus is being given to bring a positive change in the behavior and attitude of police so that people could come to police without any sort of fear or concern, he emphasized.

IGP Islamabad said Islamabad Police is facing deficiency of manpower and we are making efforts to seek special exemptions from the government for hiring more manpower, which is the key to improve law & order situation and give people a sense of security. He said give us some time and you will see sufficient improvement in the performance of police as our intentions are good and we want to do some good work for people.

Sikandar Hayat said that police will fully cooperate with affected people to provide them justice and assured that concerns of business community will be addressed in consultation with ICCI so that businessmen could feel secured and focus their full attention on promoting business activities.

Speaking at the occasion, Zafar Bakhtawari, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry said that rising incidents of kidnapping for ransom have assumed alarming situation and created a sense of insecurity in business community. Police should become proactive to curb this dangerous trend because without peace & security, business and investment would badly suffer.

He said the best way of building a trustworthy relationship between citizens and police is to formulate a Citizen Police Liaison Committee, which will play an effective role in addressing common man issues. He said ICCI should be given proper representation in CPLC so that security problems could be addressed with joint efforts.

Zafar Bakhtawari said scanners should be installed at entry points, which will help in netting criminal elements. Quick Response Forces should also be made to nab the kidnappers and other criminals. He said many people don’t register FIRs due to threats and police should do serious work on this area to give people a sense of confidence so that they could come forward to register FIR without any fear. M/s. Tariq Sadiq, Munawar Mughal, Khalid Iqbal Malik and Saeed Ahmed Bhatti were present in delegation. They also highlighted different issues of businessmen and gave their input to resolve the same.
