CDA assures to resolve business community problems with consultation March 29, 2014
Meeting at ICCI
CDA will resolve business community problems in consultation with stakeholders and no decision will be enforced unilaterally & forcefully which goes against the interest of businessmen. This was assured by Hamza Shafqaat, Director Municipal Administration, CDA while addressing business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
It was decided unanimously that CDA will charge board tax @Rs.60/sq yds. Director Municipal Administration also assured that board tax will not be collected through contractors, rather contractors will help CDA only in survey process while civic authority’s own staff will collect the board tax from traders. At this occasion, CDA gave a detailed presentation on its Fire Fighting and Rescue Operations.
Director said though CDA had issued notices to industries for compliance of firefighting requirements, however, not a single industry was fined and assured that this issue will also be settled in consultation with stakeholder industries. He further said that trade license issue will also be resolved by taking traders on board.
In his welcome address, Khalid Chaudhry, Acting President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry highlighted various issues of business community including issuance of notices to industries, increase in advertisement board tax and trade license problem. He said instead of taking unilateral decisions, CDA could achieve better results by taking business community on board on important matters. He said before increasing any tax, CDA should consult ICCI and market unions which will help it in implementing such measures.
He said CDA should do away with contractors system because this system is tarnishing its image as the attitude of contractors is normally very impolite and highly objectionable. He said CDA should upgrade its firefighting department as per current day needs and set up water reservoirs at different places so that it may not face any water shortage at the time of coping with any fire incident. He appreciated the approach of CDA to resolve problems with consultation and hoped that it will help the civic body to achieve its objective more easily.
Ajmal Baloch, Central Organizing Secretary, Traders Action Committee also lauded the positive gesture of DMA to develop consensus with traders on board tax rate and trade license issue and hope that CDA will continue this good approach in future as well.
ICCI former Presidents Tariq Sadiq, Muhammad Ejaz Abbasi and Presidents of various markets also highlighted issues and gave useful proposals to address the same.
