Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have deliberated to collaborate for promoting clean technology innovations in SMEs and start-up businesses.
The initiative is part of a 3 years Global Cleantech Innovation Program (GCIP), currently running in 6 countries, including Pakistan and is aimed at developing a sustainable entrepreneurship ecosystem by supporting clean technology innovations in SMEs and startup entrepreneurs in order to maximize their opportunities to achieve sustainable commercial success.
These matters were discussed during a visit of Mr. Muhammad Matloob Khan, National Program Coordinator of UNIDO to ICCI.

Representatives of Pakistan Council for Science & Technology (PCST), Pakistan Institute of Management (PIM), National Productivity Organization (NPO) and Center for Climate Change & Development (CCCD) were also present at the occasion.
Both organizations agreed to work jointly on the Cleantech Program in Pakistan to foster emerging and commercially viable clean technology startups to fuel green industrial growth in the country and to facilitate SMEs in embracing clean technology innovations through training, mentoring and access to potential investors.
ICCI will also cooperate with UNIDO to organize a Clean Technology Competition inviting Pakistani entrepreneurs to come up with best business ideas and prototypes in the field of renewable energy, waste to energy, energy efficiency and water efficiency in order to today’s most pressing energy, environmental and economic challenges. The 4 best business ideas will receive USD 25,000 (cash & services) while the national winner of the competition will receive USD 30,000 and will be funded to participate in the Cleantech Open’s Annual Global Forum to be held in Silicon Valley, USA in November 2014. The aspiring entrepreneurs could apply online through the Cleantech Open’s Pakistan website: http://pakistan.cleantechopen.org/accelerator-program/ with last date as June 30, 2014.
