ICCI signs MoU with DWE to improve productivity of SMEs April 21, 2016

The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed a MoU with Directorate of Workers Education to enhance the soft skills of industrial workers and improve the productivity of SMEs. Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division was the Chief Guest. Atif Ikram Sheikh, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) and Madam Dr. Tanvir Kayani, Director General, Directorate of Workers Education (DWE) signed the MoU.
 
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division termed the signing of MoU between ICCI and DWE a positive development as it will help in improving the performance of workers and will ultimately benefit the SMEs. He said workers were key asset of SMEs and providing them with latest skills & education would foster better growth of these business entities. He said many development projects would be started soon in Islamabad to develop the federal capital as a model city. He said these projects would also benefit the business community as they would create many new business opportunities as well. He said business community was playing a vital role in the development of Islamabad and assured that he would play his role in resolving their key issues.
 
Madam Dr. Tanvir Kayani, Director General, Directorate of Workers Education said that MoU of cooperation between DWE and ICCI would be highly beneficial for SMEs as it will lead to providing knowledge and education skills to workers and capacity building of SMEs. She said DWE in consultation with stakeholders had conducted training needs assessment, identified 12 grey areas and finalized 12 training modules out of which further 36 training courses were being designed for this years. She said business community should cooperate with DWE in identifying grey areas in SMEs so that it could develop customized training programs to address the workers related weaknesses of SMEs. She hoped that partnership of DWE with ICCI would contribute towards improving the productivity and growth of SMEs of this region.
 
In his welcome address, Atif Ikram Sheikh, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry hoped that MoU between ICCI and DWE would help SMEs to improve their competitiveness and achieve fast growth. He appreciated the facilitative role of Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry in resolving some burning problems of business community. He said most of the issues of trade and industry of this region were related to the CDA and stressed that Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry should support ICCI in resolving such issues that will facilitate better growth of business activities.
