Pakistan's Athletes achieved milestone in Special Olympics 2011 - Mahfooz Elahi July 15, 2011
Meeting at ICCI
A delegation of Special Olympics Pakistan’s athletes visited the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI). Saeed Ahamd, Chairman, Special Olympics Pakistan and Ronak Lakhani, General Secretary also accompanied the delegation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mahfooz Elahi, President ICCI and Vice Chairman, Special Olympics Pakistan appreciated the performance of national team and said that they were heroes of the whole nation.

Government should provide full support in future and give all facilities to players to do more for the country,” he added.

ICCI President said that athletes have won fifty eight medals including gold, silver and bronze medals, for the country. This unique feat was never achieved in the country’s history, he said. He informed that Pakistan special athletes claimed 17 gold 27 silver and 14 bronze medals in the Special Olympics World Summer Games, 2011.
Munawar Mughal, Chairman Founder Group ICCI said that the people of Pakistan were proud of these national heroes, as the long awaited real recognition in sports has finally been achieved by our special athletes.

He said that a main objective of these Games was to encourage these athletes to play positive role in the society. Special Olympic have provided great opportunities to show their abilities, as a result they feel themselves the part and pared of the society.

Munawar Mughal further said that people with disabilities are very capable in all walks of life but they have been deprived of opportunities. He demanded equal rights and friendly atmosphere in mainstream society for persons with disabilities and assured that ICCI would facilitate to maintain special people friendly environment.
