Pak-Romania strategic relations must be strengthened to boost trade and investment- H.E Senator Titus Corlatean September 22, 2011
Meeting at ICCI
 
A delegation of Romanian senators and businessmen led by H.E Senator Titus Corlatean, President of the Foreign Policy Committee-Senate of Romania visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI). H.E.Mr. Emilian ION, Ambassador of Romania in Pakistan also accompanied the delegation.

Speaking on the occasion, H.E Senator Titus Corlatean said that Pakistan and Romania enjoyed excellent bilateral relations and the recent visit would further give impetus to our friendly relations. He said that high level parliamentary and business exchanges were in the interest of both the countries and the two must focus on enhancing parliamentary and trade cooperation through frequent exchange of delegations.

H.E. Mr. Raymond Luca, Romanian Senator said that Romania is the seventh largest European Union Market and offered joint ventures in various sectors. He exchanged views on common interests and agreed to strengthen economic relations between the two countries.

Mr. Aurelian Gogulescu, President, Chamber of Commerce and Industry Prahova, Romania has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ICCI to further enhance bilateral relation between Pakistan and Romania and creating stronger linkage between the private sector of both countries.

In his welcome address, Mahfooz Elahi, President ICCI said that Pakistan is a peaceful nation and express concern on the role of international media that portrays a very negative image about Pakistan. He said that Pakistan is a very promising economy and an attractive investment destination; all sectors of the economy were open for investment with attractive incentives.

He highlighted that tremendous investment opportunities were available in the power, oil & gas, mining, textile, agriculture and financial sector. ICCI President said that exchange of business delegations could be better option for exploring areas of common interest.

He said that marble and granite were fast growing sectors in Pakistan with huge investment potential and invited Romanian counterparts to Pakistan for investment and transfer of technology to take advantage of these opportunities.

Mr. Shahid-ur-Rehman, Chairman of Standing Committee on Minerals, FPCCI emphasized for bringing investment in mineral sector.
