Government should adopt strategic approach to increase exports-Asad Farid June 22, 2012

Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) during a meeting with Tariq Iqbal Puri, Chief Executive of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan discussed important issues regarding public-private interaction for increasing Pakistan’s trade. 
Mr.Tariq Puri in his remarks said that Pakistan has great potential in exports and through market research and participating in international trade fairs and exhibitions, export opportunities can be tapped. He said that Trade Development Authority greatly emphasizing on creating trade linkage by holding exhibitions of Pakistani products abroad and also in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Asad Farid, Acting President ICCI appreciated the role of Mr.Tariq Puri towards trade development and identifying new markets and areas to help increase Pakistan’s exports. He was of the view that through Pakistan pavilion in big international exhibitions, Pakistan products can be introduced for greater outreach and exports.
Asad Farid, Acting president ICCI stressed on the need of stronger interaction between TDAP and Chambers/Associations in Pakistan. He suggested that TDAP should regularly inform about important upcoming events to ensure maximum participation of businessmen for trade development. 
Acting President gave an overview about the current status of construction of Export Display Center of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry which is being built with the focus to introduce Pakistani exportable products to international buyers and diplomats. He said that EDC project shall be completed in a year where ICCI will hold many events to help boost Pakistan’s exports.
He also gave details of visits of ICCI business delegation’s visit to Turkey, Romania and Czech Republic. Asad Farid informed that delegation had very useful B2B meetings with entrepreneurs and invited them to participate in trade fairs in Pakistan and also industrial exhibitions of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce, which is planned to be held in September. 
Acting President ICCI emphasized that instead of taking large delegations, small delegations including businessmen from relevant areas should be constituted for productive visits. He said that ICCI plans to organize a Mango Festival in Chamber to promote exports of mangoes which required collaboration of TDAP for this venture. He said that due to the efforts of TDAP, participation of international buyers is increasing in Expo’s arranged by TDAP. 
Responding to Mr.Asad Farid, Acting President ICCI, Chief Executive assured support of TDAP for all activities of the Chamber.
