ICCI urges traders to ensure strict compliance of SOPs in markets and shops

Muhammad Ahmed Waheed, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) along with a delegation visited various markets including Jinnah Super and monitored the situation of implementation of SOPs issued by ICT Administration for opening of markets and commercial centres. Malik Rab Nawaz President Traders Association Jinnah Super Market, Abdul Rehman Siddiqui General Secretary, Muhammad Ejaz Abbasi former President ICCI, Malik Sohail Hussain, Zahid Hamid President Jewellers Association, Ch. Muhammad Ashraf, Khalid Chaudhry Secretary Traders Action Committee and others were also present at the occasion. Addressing the traders at the occasion, Muhammad Ahmed Waheed said that government has allowed opening of shops and markets in Islamabad to ease the difficulties of trading community and it was the responsibility of traders to ensure strict compliance of SOPs to remain safe from the Covid-19. He warned that if any slackness was shown in compliance of SOPs, the Covid-19 could spread fast that would prove disastrous for all. Muhammad Ahmed Waheed said the notification issued by the ICT Administration clearly mentioned that shop owners as well as the concerned Trader’s Unions would be responsible for the compliance of SOPs and urged that traders should fully cooperate their implementation. He said that ICCI representatives, traders’ unions of the concerned markaz and the volunteers of Tiger Force along with ICT Police and ICT Administration shall also ensure the compliance of the SOPs issued for social distancing and in case of any violation, strict action could be taken under the law. ICCI President said SOPs have mandated everyone to wear marks and use hand sanitizer along with checking temperatures and symptoms of shop employees and emphasized that traders should ensure their implementation. He also appealed to the customers not to cause rush in markets and ensure social distancing at shops while doing shopping. He said only with collective efforts, we can keep markets open and save people from the infection of Covid-19 and stressed that everyone should play positive role for this purpose.
