As per decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, levying of any new tax/fee would be considered illegal till the completion of hearing of public objections against such matter, therefore, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) should immediately withdraw charging of parking fee in markets.

This was stressed by Khalid Mehmood Chaudhry, Senior Vice President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry while addressing the inaugural ceremony of a Chinese Restaurant in Sagheer Market, F-10, Islamabad.

He appealed to the Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan and Chairman CDA to consider withdrawing imposition of parking fee in different markets as it is not based on justice; rather is a source of great concerns for the business community of the federal capital.

He said businessmen would have no objection to paying parking fee if CDA had constructed parking plazas in markets. The current parking lots in commercial centers are quite insufficient and without providing proper parking facilities in markets, imposition of parking fee is not justifiable at all.

Khalid Mehmood Chaudhry said business community is already facing many problems in promoting activities due to multiple factors and in such circumstances, charging Rs.20/hour as parking fee for parking vehicles in markets would discourage the consumers from visiting markets and would ultimately prove harmful for business activities. If business would suffer, it would also affect the tax revenue of CDA.

He also appealed to the Chairman CDA that before taking any decision that have direct impact on business activities, business community should be taken fully on board as unilateral decisions would never serve the desired purpose.
