Cyber Cites establishment must for enhancing IT exports – Mian Shaukat Masud

Government should greatly focus on development of I.T. Industry by establishing Cyber Cities in the major cities in the country, stated Mian Shaukat Masud while addressing a meeting at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

The President said that our country is facing a number of challenges for its economic growth and prosperity thus by putting more attention on the IT industry not only considerable revenue can be generated, but also a number of jobs can be created to help reduce unemployment. He said that the youth of our country possess great abilities which can be properly utilized by creating opportunities in the IT fields.

Establishment of Cyber Cities in major cities across Pakistan can encourage youth and students to prove their metal in the IT field and to help generate foreign exchange by exporting IT related products to many countries around the globe, stated Mian Shaukat Masud. He added that the exports in the IT field are very low as compared to India which can be enhanced through establishment of Cyber Cities and providing right opportunities to the talented people in the IT industry.

The President appreciated efforts of t he Government for the promotion of IT industry and proposed that government must send talented students of various universities for international IT competition and their competence must also be acknowledged by giving them awards at national level.

Mian Shaukat Masud said that Cyber Cities can produce well trained segment which can have good opportunities to start their own business ventures and also be inducted in various organizations for improving efficiency by providing them proper trainings.  He said that in the period of Zia-ul-Haq, the concept of establishing Cyber Cities was floated but it could not be implemented due to unknown reasons.
 
He emphasized that public sector schools must be provided with the latest IT equipment and teachers should be trained on modern lines to impart IT education to students so that they could meet the emerging economic challenges. He said that with the promotion of IT education at broader level, exports in this field can be enhanced to earn considerable foreign exchange.
