President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI), Yassar Sakhi Butt has strongly opposed the anticipated plan of the government to announce Saturday as a weekly holiday and said that Government should take solid and concrete steps to cover this power gap instead of opting the 2 holidays in a week and shutting down of markets before sunset.
ICCI President said that this decision would further slowdown the already fragile economic wheel and would directly affect the national GDP growth. He urged the Government to take steps for revival of economy by eliminating power theft on war footing rather than taking the measures as announced yesterday.
He said that this decision would badly affect the working of industries especially export oriented industries which work round the clock to meet the export targets throughout the year.
Butt suggested the Government to consider alternative measures for saving energy and enhancing the capacity of electricity generating units. He said that an additional holiday in a week would also cause financial loss to the national exchequer. He was of the view that permanent solution should be worked out to overcome energy crisis.
ICCI President showed serious concern for labors, who were working on daily wages and said that this segment of society would badly suffer due to this unwise move of the Government.
