Terms Public-Private Partnership Key to Sustainable Energy Future ISLAMABAD:  President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI), Nasir Mansoor Qureshi, has urged the government to utilize the current decline in global petroleum prices as a strategic opportunity to implement long-awaited reforms that can strengthen Pakistan’s economy, enhance energy security, and support industrial competitiveness. In his statement, President Qureshi welcomed the government’s efforts to develop a comprehensive and data-driven energy policy and emphasized the need for a decisive shift from short-term relief measures to long-term structural transformation. He highlighted that the fall in oil prices must not be viewed merely as a temporary cushion but as a rare opportunity to reset Pakistan’s energy and economic priorities in favor of sustainable development. The ICCI President stressed that reducing domestic fuel prices in response to the global trend would ease inflationary pressures and significantly lower production and transportation costs for businesses. He also expressed strong support for the establishment of a Fuel Price Stabilization Fund to safeguard the economy against future oil price shocks while ensuring consistent pricing that benefits both consumers and industries. Mr. Qureshi emphasized the need to build strategic petroleum reserves, enhance domestic oil exploration efforts, and invest in refinery modernization. He pointed out that boosting local capacity would reduce dependence on costly imports and save valuable foreign exchange. He also underscored the importance of rationalizing fuel taxation in a way that provides relief without compromising fiscal discipline. Highlighting the need for long-term resilience, he advocated for reinvesting savings from lower oil import bills into critical infrastructure, energy sector reform, and industrial development. He noted that renegotiating existing power purchase agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) could help lower electricity tariffs, benefiting both industry and consumers alike. The ICCI President reaffirmed the Chamber’s full support for Pakistan’s renewable energy targets, particularly the goal of generating 60 percent of electricity from renewable sources by 2030. He emphasized the need for public-private collaboration in solar, wind, and hydropower, alongside the promotion of electric vehicle adoption to ensure a sustainable energy future. Mr. Qureshi concluded by calling for the transparent implementation of these reforms and expressed the business community’s readiness to work alongside the government to build an energy-secure, industrially robust, and economically resilient Pakistan.
