Cuba wants enhanced cooperation with Pakistan in healthcare, trade and other fields

Cuba wanted to enhance its cooperation with Pakistan in bio-technology, healthcare, trade, investment and other sectors as both countries have good potential to cooperate with each other in multiple fields to achieve beneficial results. This was said by Dr. Roberto Morales Ojeda, Vice President of Cuba while addressing the business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI). Gabriel Tiel Capote Ambassador of Cuba in Pakistan, Alberto Blanco Silva Director of Asia and Oceania Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Dr. Nestor Marimon Torres Director of International Relations Ministry of Public Health of Cuba and others were in his delegation. Vice President of Cuba said that promoting bilateral trade should be the key focus of both countries as Cuba and Pakistan could exchange many products and services with each other including natural health products. He said that Cuba was analysing the contracting manufacturing with Pakistan for some pharma products. He said that Cuba was not endowed with enough natural and mineral resources and its leadership focused on knowledge economy by promoting science including bio-technology. He said that Pakistan could benefit by strengthening its cooperation with Cuba in science and technology. He said that Cuba could also help Pakistan in overcoming hepatitis, polio and other diseases. He said that Cuba has brought constitutional reforms to promote foreign investment and urged that Pakistani investors should explore Cuba for JVs and investment. He said that ICCI should send its delegation to Cuba to explore prospects of private sector cooperation between the two countries. Speaking at the occasion, Muhammad Ahmed Waheed, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry reiterated gratitude for strong cooperation of Cuba with Pakistan after 2005 earthquake. He said that current volume of trade between Pakistan and Cuba was quite limited and stressed that both countries should encourage frequent exchange of trade delegations to explore all potential areas of mutual collaboration. He said that Cuba should transfer technology to Pakistan in medical and other fields that would help our industry to upgrade itself. He said that Cuba was producing vaccines for many diseases and it should share its expertise with Pakistan that would help it in coping with key diseases. Tahir Abbasi, Senior Vice President ICCI thanked Vice President of Cuba and his delegation for visiting Chamber and hoped that their visit would open new avenues for more cooperation between private sectors of both countries. Zubair Ahmed Malik Chairman Founder Group, Muhammad Ejaz Abbasi Vice President FPCCI, Mian Akram Farid, Zafar Bakhtawari, Mian Shaukat Masud, Ch. Waheed ud Din, Nasir M. Qureshi and representatives of various local pharmaceutical companies also spoke at the occasion and shared ideas for promoting trade and economic relations between Pakistan and Cuna.
