ICCI and DWE discuss collaboration for providing trainings to workers of SMEs

Syed Noor Ul Hassnain, Director General, Directorate of Workers Education, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Management along with Muhammad Naqi Khan and Muhammad Akbar Rai Deputy Directors visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry and exchanged views with Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan President ICCI and his team for providing trainings to the workers of SMEs including industrial and commercial establishments.
Syed Noor Ul Hassnain said that the Directorate of Workers Education (DWE) was working to provide free of cost trainings to produce devoted and disciplined manpower according to the current requirements of the market. He said that the training initiatives covered various topics including effective time management, stress management, total quality management, change management, work ethics and communication skills. He said that DWE was providing in-house trainings as well as trainings at workplaces, both for employees and employers. He said that all expenses of trainings and trainers were borne by the DWE and the purpose of training interventions was to make the workers of various public and private sector organizations more productive. He said that ICCI members should take benefit of the services of DWE to improve the skills and productivity of their employees.
Speaking at the occasion, Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) lauded the role of DWE for providing free of cost trainings to working people. He said that industries and businesses could improve their productivity and service delivery significantly by focusing on trainings and skills development of their workforce. He said that Pakistan has immense pool of young talent that could be transformed into a great dividend for the country by imparting them demand-driven trainings and skills. He said that ICCI would organize one-day training workshop in collaboration with DWE in its premises in which workers of SMEs from trade, industry and services sectors would be invited to get the required training.
Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan said that over 60 percent of Pakistan’s population was below the age of 35 and if they were trained and equipped with demand-driven skills to gain employment in domestic and international markets, a major chunk of the country’s population would be able to work towards enhancing the nation’s industrial productivity, competitiveness, domestic production, and exports besides significantly boosting the inflow of foreign remittances. He said that providing technical trainings to youth and enhancing their skills should be the key focus of the government to make them key drivers of economic growth of the country.
Ms. Fatma Azim Senior Vice President, Abdul Rehman Khan Vice President ICCI, M. Ejaz Abbasi, Saeed Khan, Aslam Khokhar, Raja Hassan Akhtar, Umar Hussain, Ali Akram Khan, Khalid Chaudhry and others also spoke at the occasion and gave useful suggestions for organizing training interventions for workers of SMEs to make them more efficient and productive.
