Islamabad ( ) Muhammad Shakeel Munir, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) hailed the initiative of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif for inaugurating the Islamabad Metro Bus service from Peshawar Morr to Islamabad International Airport and termed it a very positive development to facilitate the commuters. He said that Islamabad is the capital city of the country, but is still without a respectable public transport facility on its major routes except for metro bus service. He hoped that the Shahbaz Sharif government would consider introducing quality public transport service on all major routes that are connecting with Islamabad from the surrounding areas so that the people could be facilitated in commuting. He also welcomed the assurance of the Prime Minister for fast implementation of the delayed or suspended projects of public importance. Muhammad Shakeel Munir said that many public sector development projects are started, but they get delayed due to various hurdles and their cost overruns many times besides taking lot of time in completion. Citing an example, he said that when the construction of Islamabad International Airport was started in 2006, its cost was estimated at Rs.37 billion, but when the airport was completed after delay of many years, it cost has exceeded Rs.100 billion, which shows that how much money of the taxpayers is wasted due to unnecessary delay in projects of public importance. ICCI President hoped that the new coalition government led by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif would speed up the work on all ongoing public sector development projects to ensure that they are completed on time to save the wastage necessary cost and time. He assured that the business community would fully cooperate with the new government in its efforts for accelerating the pace of public sector development projects on time so that our infrastructure could be further improved, which would greatly facilitate the growth of trade and industrial activities and facilitate the revival of the economy. Jamshaid Akhtar Sheikh, Senior Vice President and Muhammad Faheem Khan, Vice President ICCI also welcomed the inauguration of orange line metro bus services for airport and hoped that the new government would ensure the completion of all important public sector development project within time.
