Sheikh Amir Waheed, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry said that squash has great scope in Pakistan and ICCI would cooperate with Punjab Squash Association in organizing National Squash Championship in Rawalpindi in September this year. He was addressing as Chief Guest the closing ceremony of Jashn-e-Azadi Squash Tournament organized by Rawalpindi Squash Association. Muhammad Naveed Malik, Senior Vice President ICCI was also present at the occasion.
Sheikh Amir Waheed said that Pakistan produced world champions in Squash including Jahangir Khan and Jan Sher Khan which showed that our country has great talent in squash. He stressed that the government should fully patronize squash players so that they could bring more laurels for Pakistan.
Total 76 squash players from four categories including Under-11, Under-15, Seniors and Girls participated in the Jashn-e-Azadi Squash Tournament. Muhammad Ibrahim from Seniors, Muhammad Umar from Under-15 and Azan Khan from Under-11 won the titles in the tournament.
Speaking at the occasion, Nadeem Anwar, Secretary General, Rawalpindi Squash Association said that for the last two years, no national level squash championship was held in Rawalpindi and stressed that ICCI should cooperate in organizing National Squash Championship. Squash World No.6 Zaman Gul, Qaiser Mirza, Ghazanfar Shah and others were also present at the occasion.
At the end of the tournament, Sheikh Amir Waheed President and Muhammad Naveed Malik Senior Vice President ICCI distributed medals and certificates among the winners of the tournament.
