ICCI to cooperate with EOBI for registration of industrial and commercial establishments

Dr. Tariq Mehmood, Regional Head, Employees Old Age Benefits Institution (EOBI), Islamabad visited the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) held a meeting with Muhammad Shakeel Munir, President ICCI to discuss matters for increasing the registration of more industrial and commercial establishments in EOBI so that their employees could take benefit from its pension and old age benefits schemes. Jamshaid Akhtar Sheikh Senior Vice President, Muhammad Faheem Khan Vice President ICCI, Khalid Iqbal Malik former President ICCI, Muhammad Hussain former Vice President ICCI and others were present at the occasion. Dr. Tariq Mehmood said that the close liaison between EOBI Islamabad Region and ICCI was important to register more businesses and industries in EOBI pension schemes, which were quite beneficial to their employees. He said that as per law, it was mandatory for commercial and industrial employers to get registered their new employees with EOBI within 30 days. He said that EOBI has now provided an online portal for employers to make entry of new employees or exit employees in case of their leaving the organization. He said that 650,000 pensioners were currently benefiting from the EOBI pension scheme and they were able to draw their pension from ATMs. He said that EOBI cardholders were getting many benefits including allocation of subsidized plots, grants from Workers Welfare Fund and admission in educational institutions, therefore, covering more commercial and industrial organizations was important to extend the outreach of its benefits to more employees.     Speaking at the occasion, Muhammad Shakeel Munir, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry appreciated the initiatives of EOBI for facilitating its pensioners. He assured that ICCI would cooperate with EOBI for registration of more business enterprises in its pension scheme. He lauded the move of the government for increasing the minimum pension of EOBI to Rs.8500/- and added that keeping in view the rising inflation, EOBI should consider further increasing its minimum pension for its registered employees.
Jamshaid Akhtar Sheikh, Senior Vice President ICCI said that EOBI should organize awareness sessions in collaboration with ICCI to create better awareness in the business community about its pension schemes that would motivate more businesses to register their employees with EOBI.
Muhammad Faheem Khan, Vice President ICCI thanked Dr. Tariq Mehmood, Regional Head, EOBI Islamabad for visiting Chamber and exchanging views on matters of mutual interest. Khalid Iqbal Malik former President ICCI, Muhammad Hussain former Vice President ICCI and others also spoke at the occasion and assured their cooperation to EOBI for increasing the registration of more businesses in its pension schemes.
