In Pakistan, the population growth rate has been increasing alarmingly and creating an obstacle in the way of economic progress.

Pakistan is the sixth most populous country in the world, massively increasing population has made the resources insufficient in production, facilities and in job opportunities, Muhammad Tauseef Zaman, Vice President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) has said.

ICCI Vice President said that there has been an enormous increase in the demand of energy as a result of population growth, supply of energy is far less than the actual demand, resultantly crisis has emerged. Government should exploit the country’s resources and use them in the best possible manner, he added.

If Pakistan has a desire to accelerate the pace of its development, it has to find additional resources to match its growing population, Zaman opinioned.

Adil Anees, Vice President ICCI said that increasing population created housing and settlement problems, the health care facilities have become inadequate, the unemployment increased which results in increase in the crime rate.

Anees was of the view that Pakistan has to import different products for meeting commodity needs at the cost of foreign exchange which increases its import bill. Government should increase the domestic production of goods to meet the requirements of a growing population, he added.

Muhammad Tauseef Zaman, Vice President ICCI urged the government to significantly paid due attention to the several agriculture inputs in order to meet the problems of food for the growing population.

To meet the future food demands government should make use of the best science and technology to raise crop productivity and resource-use efficiencies of water, new insights in genetics and systems functioning could guide the development of improved cultivars to close the yield gap, Zaman added.

Adil Anees, Vice President ICCI said that Pakistan must give priority to the development of its existing mineral resources, which can play a major role in helping to reshape the country’s socio-economic infrastructure. To meet the growing demand of the population, more mineral resources need to be discovered and developed, otherwise sustainable development cannot be achieved, he opinioned.
