Amended Rent Control Act (RCA) has been presented in the National Assembly four months ago with the efforts of Chief Commissioner Islamabad under the instruction of Former Federal Law Minister Dr. Babar Awan but so far it is not executed, Syed Adil Anis, Acting President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) has made these remarks in a meeting at Chamber.
He said that amended RCA has been still pending with standing committee. He urged Ghulam Farooq Awan, Advisor to Prime Minister for Law to approve this bill from National Assembly.
He said that a Dispute Resolve Committee had been formed which would be supervised by nominated representative by ICCI. Committee has the representatives from each party and under the act it had been made mandatory to consult the Committee first before going into courts, he maintained.
He said that 90 percent cases would be resolved by implementation of amended RCA. He said that the current Rent Law was unable to fully protect the interests of tenant traders. Non-existence of a balanced rent law in the federal capital was the main cause of rising rent disputes between tenants and landlords adding that this situation was also affecting business activities, he added.
Acting President ICCI said that with the efforts of Dr. Babar Awan, this bill has been propelled to assembly after meeting with all the stakeholders, tenants, owners and traders. He urged the government to approve this bill from national Assembly immediately.
