ICCI and IIUI discuss to collaborate for promoting industry-academia linkages

A delegation of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) led by its President Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry and held discussions with Muhammad Ahmed Waheed, President ICCI the possibilities of collaboration to promote industry- academia linkages for the benefit of industry and students. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Munir, Vice President (AF&P), Prof. Dr. Aqdas Naveed Malik, Vice President (HS&R), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir Khalily, Vice President (Academics), Prof. Dr. Farkhanda Zia, Vice President (Female Campus), Prof. Dr. Samina Malik Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. Ahmed Shuja Executive Director CAEPE, Dr. Fazl e Rabi Mumtaz Media Advisor to President IIU, Dr. Ashraf Abdul Rafay Advisor to President on Foreign Affairs, Dr. Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah Dean Faculty of Management Sciences, Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani Director Distance Education Directorate and Dr. Tasneem Fatima Faculty of Management Sciences were in the delegation. Speaking at the occasion, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President of IIUI said that they wanted to develop close cooperation with ICCI to develop strong industry-academia linkages for the mutual benefit of industry and students. He said ICCI and IIUI should organize a joint workshop or seminar inviting economic experts with focus on Pakistan Vision 2025. He said both sides should consider collaboration for incubation centres to promote business start-ups. He invited ICCI delegation to visit IIUI to see its facilities and explore prospects for collaboration in areas of interests. He said that IIUI would consider the recommendation for giving scholarship to needy students and offering discounts to students of ICCI members. Addressing the IIUI delegation, Muhammad Ahmed Waheed, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry said that Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) of IIUI should focus on applied research in collaboration with ICCI to create win-win results for industry and university. He said that ICCI would identify the problems of industry and IIUI students should find out their solutions through research projects. He emphasized that real-time research projects should be given to students of bachelor and master degree programs in their final year’s assignments that would help address the issues of industry and provide practical experience to the students as well. He said that IIUI students should also conduct studies to bring efficiency in local industry. Both sides agreed to constitute a joint committee for moving forward on agreed areas of collaboration. Tahir Abbasi Senior Vice President and Saif ur Rahman Vice President ICCI, Mian Shaukat Masud, Muhammad Ejaz Abbasi, Muhammad Aslam Khokhar, Mian Waqas Masud and others also spoke at the occasion and stressed for the need of developing strong collaboration between ICCI and IIUI.
