Government should use EOPI, social security and other labor funds for the welfare of private sector workers instead of spending on non-welfare purposes.
Yassar Sakhi Butt, President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has stated this in a statement. He said that benefits for local workers were negligible, thus there is need to chalk out a broadband policy to safe-guard the rights of labors in different sectors.
He said that workers have been deprived of their old age pension, health and educational benefits as Government was spending and investing these funds in unnecessary and un-profitable investments. He said that industrial workers of the private sector play vital role in the economic development of the country, thus they should be facilitated and all options should be utilized to secure their rights.
ICCI President was of the view that workers would performed their relative tasks more devotedly due to guarantee of basic needs and social security in the private sector which would enhance the efficiency, effectiveness and quality in the organizations.
Yassar Sakhi Butt urged the Government to contribute in the social security funds being the trustee of these funds rather than spending such funds for the political and other non-development purposes. He cited the example of developed nations, where all facilities to the workers were available at their door steps, therefore, ICCI President emphasized upon the Government to provide health care, education, pension, monetary and other benefits to industrial workers.
He expressed concern over the stagnant employment opportunities and said that industrial-friendly policies are needed to boost the process of industrialization so that the huge idle labor force could be absorbed.
