Sending a forty-member medical team and providing relief assistance of USD two million by Bangladesh to flood affectees is a clear testimony of deep sympathies of the government and people of Bangladesh for Pakistan.
This was said by Mr.Zahid Maqbool, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry while exchanging views with H.E. Mr. Suhrab Hossain, High Commissioner of Bangladesh.
He thanked the government and people of Bangladesh for contributing generously for flood affectees in this hour of need.
He said Pakistan and Bangladesh had agreed to sign a Free Trade Agreement to raise the annual bilateral trade to US$ 1.0 billion from the existing over $ 350 million and urged the both government for early finalization of FTA.
He said that the FTA will not only help increase export and import businesses of the both countries it would also help investment between the two countries.
Mr.Zahid Maqbool also thanked Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina for expressing her deep sympathy to the government and the people of Pakistan on the occasion of this biggest human tragedy.
H.E. Mr. Suhrab Hossain, High Commissioner of Bangladesh informed the President ICCI that a forty-member medical team of Bangladesh has arrived in Pakistan to provide medical assistance to the flood affected people.
He said that Bangladesh has sent medical team as an expression of solidarity with the people of Pakistan. Officials of the Ministry of Health, NDMA and the Bangladesh High Commission received the team at Karachi airport.
The Bangladeshi Envoy informed that the medical team is comprising specialists on childcare, medicine, gynecology, nurses & paramedics and will work in the flood affected areas of Dadu in Sindh.
He said medicines consignments of around 12 tons have already arrived in Pakistan from Bangladesh while additional consignments of medicines of about 38 tons are to reach Pakistan soon.
H.E. Mr. Suhrab Hossain said that Government of Bangladesh has also announced to provide relief assistance worth USD two million to flood affectees such as tents, blankets, water purification tablets, mineral water, life saving medicines, oral saline, hygiene kit, biscuit, packed dry food etc.
